Emilia Duncan-Sotubo is a Marketing and Communications professional with over 10 years of experience in building and implementing cutting-edge digital marketing strategies for brands and individuals. She has worked with top media organisations, private and international brands which includes Pexel Market research UK, Red Media Africa owners of the future Awards Africa, LG, Nestle, Alat by Wema “The first fully digital bank in Nigeria”, Contec Global the owners of Afrione Mobile “The first-ever made in Nigerian Mobile phones and tablets, Ascon oil, Premier Education UK and a host of other reputable brands.

Emilia started casually interning in the media industry from at the age of 16 through various opportunities from the church’s employability program, one of the opportunities she got later led her to an advanced internship program at Goge Africa one of the top television show in Africa focused on celebrating Africa’s cultural heritage, she took the show beyond TV and helped showcase it online to the younger generation to promote acceptance and celebration of their African Cultural Heritage.

At the age of 21 due to her success with Goge Africa, she got an opportunity to work with Red Media Africa one of the biggest new media companies in Africa she started as a junior associate and soon worked her way up the ladder to become The Group Marketing Manager within 4 years. She was fully responsible for the brand’s digital arm YNaija which was the top 5 news website in Nigeria as far back as 2012. She implemented strategies that positioned the brand as the go-to website for upwardly mobile young people while also monetizing and generating revenues for the brand through sponsorships, partnerships, and advert placements. Through YNaija she created highly commendable strategies for brands like Diageo, Friesland Campina, MTN, and Reckitt Benckiser amongst others. As the group marketing manager for Red Media Africa, she also managed and monetizing for their other brands; The Future Awards Africa, Red communication, and Rubbin’ Minds TV show with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

After she left Red Media, she went ahead to start a part-time consulting agency Avida Media in partnership with a colleague from the industry. The agency was fully focused on marketing, sales generation, and corporate events management. In the first year of running Avida, she got a contract from the office of the former president Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to coordinate with the UN circle of diplomats and organize an honorary reception in Geneva, Switzerland with a few selected bloggers/Influencers to execute a viral live digital update campaign for the ceremony.

Soon after the international deal with the UN circle of Diplomats Emilia and her team won a pitch with LG electronics to lunch their new phone variant LG G5. Emilia proposed a ground-breaking strategy to launch the device by shutting down 10 top news websites including Linda Ikeji, Bellanaija, Naijaloaded, YNaija amongst which for 5 minutes the websites would only display the device’s unveiling simultaneously with the launch party. This was an idea that has never been thought of or implement in the history of digital marketing which generated massive buzz. The LG campaign was also launched using notable influencers including Toke Makinwa. The campaign not only went viral but also achieved massive sales of the device in the first week of release. While running the LG campaign she also got an opportunity to work with UK trends watch by organizing a youth Ted talk event for one of their programs in Nigeria.

In 2017 she was offered a position at Sponge digital agency to work as a Brand Manager to help coordinate a team to execute effective digital campaigns for Alat by Wema (The first fully digital bank in Nigeria) as well as other brands like Nescafe, Oracle, Smirnoff ice and Peak milk. She later got another offer from India to work with Afrione Mobile (The first-ever made in Nigeria smartphone and tablet) to work as the brand’s Digital Marketing Manager to help break ground mainly on social media. Due to the success of her work with Afrione, she was later promoted to the position of Group Marketing Manager to also work on the sister brands of Afrione Mobile; NowNow Nigeria (Fintech brand) and Green Lotto (Lottery company).

In 2019 she resigned from Afrione Mobile to work with TooXclusive one of the top music websites in Africa as the Marketing Manager Sub-saharan Africa charged with the responsibility to continue to help notable brands like MTN, Airtel, Diageo, Virgin Atlantic amongst others achieve their digital goals. Her husband owns Tooxclusive and it has been in existence for over 10 years.

Emilia currently runs her own consulting company “The Emilia Duncan Consulting” through which she is working on projects for companies like Pexel Market Research and Premier Education in the UK while studying for her Master’s degree in Marketing at Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge UK.
